LOOKING AFTER THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
The importance of skincare and what I have learnt over the years.
Ever since I was young, my beautiful mother instilled in me the importance of skincare. Looking back now, I'm so glad I listened to her because while she's now in her mid-50's, people often think she is my older sister. I kid you not! Mum reminded me every day to cleanse, tone and moisturise my skin, and helped develop my love for quality skincare products. While at the time I would moan about how long it took to complete the process every night, I am so grateful that care for my skin and this type of regime was instilled in me from an early age!
Fast forward many years as I start to push my thirties (#SOS!), the importance of looking after my skin is now becoming a real focus. For me, this means a number of things, including using the right products and taking extra steps to prevent ageing.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR YOU
As a result of working in an industry where you get sent endless new products to try (eternally grateful!), I found myself recently chopping and changing between skincare products. Noticing my skin feeling a bit lacklustre, I realised that trying every brand under the sun was not helping my skin and the best thing for me to do was to find the products best suited to me and to stick with them! After having an Aveda facial at Djurra Spa here in Perth, my skin felt a million bucks and I realised I had found the products that I was going to stick to.
My Aveda skincare routine and my favourite products are listed below. These were specifically chosen for my more dry skin type, so may also be good for your skin if you have a similar skin type to me!
Creme Cleanser (every morning and night with a damp face)
Hydrating Treatment Lotion (every evening after cleansing)
Intense Hydrating Soft Creme (every morning and night)
Exfoliant (every evening)
Energising Eye Creme (every night)
Tulasara Radiant Oil (every second night)
Tulasara Calm Concentrate (every second night)
If you are looking to overhaul your skin care regime to a one-product cupboard, these products have completely changed my skin and I'm pretty much obsessed! (PS. not an ad, just genuinely obsessed)
DRINK WATER! AND LOTS OF IT.
I never used to drink water - none, zero, zilch! I'm not proud of it, but I can say that I definitely see the benefits of ensuring a substantial amount of water is consumed every day not only for healthy, but for my skin, too! Now, I always make sure I have a 1L bottle next to me at my desk throughout the day and this trick ensures a non-water drinker like me gets more than enough consumption throughout the day!
DO REGULAR FACE MASKS
One of my favourite pampering rituals is to pop on a face mask, light a candle and settle in for some quality magazine reading on the couch. While I like to complete this weekly, I'm definitely trying to step up my game and slot in another face mask during the week, too! When it comes to face masks, I absolutely swear by the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay combined with Apple Cider Vinegar, Aloe Vera and Water. My sister bought me a big tub for Christmas a few years ago and I have never looked back! If you haven't tried it yet - I cannot recommend it more, I absolutely swear by this face mask.
USE SUNSCREEN
Maybe it's an Australian thing (that Australian sun is killer, guys!), but it's so important to make sure you are protecting your skin with sunscreen. Yes, that means no suntanning for hours on end, hehe!
These days, it's actually really easy to find foundations that have SPF inbuilt into them which makes protecting your face that much easier. Some cult favourites, Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation and Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot BBB Cream do! I've also noticed some self-tanners do the same, which is even more convenient - tanned skin without sun damage and added protection from the rays!
What are your skincare tips and tricks? Would love to know as I head into old age, hehe!
